If you have thought and pondered to yourself;
"Why are they grieving for so long?"
Consider yourself lucky.
If you have never been forced to walk the darkest depths of your soul; into an abyss of shattered memories, painted by a shallow statement of how time fixes our wounds. Please value and indulge in that sense of safety.
Grief is an overwhelming sense of losing a fraction of yourself you cannot get back. Frightened by the thought that you may never be found. A consistent mix of triggers and midnight tears hidden by a brave face breaking solid. Your soul, interrupted by endless reminders of how life may have felt before the betrayal was handcrafted for you by life.
It's easy to believe you will never build up your walls until you are thrown a curveball carved by your worst nightmare. Ready to implode into your innocent and naive heart.
The bittersweet agony of knowing a smell, taste, touch or sound may bring your nerves to their knees in seconds.
They say, "The hardest battles are given to the strongest people."
Life; centered around the constant lessons of what we know now versus what we wish we could have known before.
I do not believe strength comes from pain. A warped conception that the level of suffering we endure, the more powerful we become.
And even though our souls learn to cope with our new reality, there will always be a chipped piece of interior deep inside our walls. The next time you want to say, "it will get easier with time."
Think about the light they may not be able to see.
After all, you can only see an abyss from the top of its surface, while the bottom is still pitch black.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem is my way of coping with my own grief. Free writing my thoughts of my personal betrayal and pain, while I felt I was not being seen or heard by my peers around me. I brought a sense of safety back to myself finally understanding and accepting what my heart could not before. A reflection of me today, writing what my old self was too afraid to say.
