Have you ever seen a sunset overtake the sky so blue
That made you simply stand in awe and revel in its hue?
Have you ever seen a waterfall in perfect flowing form
From whose awe inspiring majesty your gaze cannot be torn?
Have you ever seen a starry sky sparkle so pure and true?
If you've seen these you know how I feel when I lay my eyes on you.
Beauty raises up our hearts and minds beyond the clouds.
It elevates the humble, and humiliates the proud.
This I know and know it well, for this I've seen time and again,
But there's another side of beauty: a side of sadness, a side of pain.
For I could no sooner hold a sunset embraced within my arms
Than I could hold you lovingly and revel in your charms.
And I could no sooner walk along with a waterfall hand in hand
Than I could walk alongside you barefooted in the sand.
And I could no sooner kiss your cheek than I could kiss the heavenly stars
And I feel as far away from you as I feel from suns that burn afar.
