Jacqueline and John

David Wakeling

“Life with him was always so fast. Jack was young
and loved everything. Jack was the most unself-conscious
person I’d ever seen.
He could just naturally be attractive in a crowd or a room.”

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd 1963.
He was riding in a presidential motorcade with his wife Jacqueline.
He was shot in the head.

“ It’s funny I used to worry about going into the white house it would
be a gold fish bowl of secret service. I would never see my husband.
I was always a liability to him.
Everyone thought I was  a snob from Newport who had Bouffant hair
and French clothes and hated Politics.”

“There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the
long-range risks of comfortable inaction.”

“I know I was being myself and I did like to stay in the background
and I think he did appreciate that in a wife. He married me for the things I was.”

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest
appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

“I think it is good to be able to forgive quickly. I know that is a quality
That Jack liked.”

“When we got into the white house .All the things that I had
done before become wonderful. I was so happy for Jack that he
could be proud of me.”

“A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.”
“Those who dare to fail miserably can achieve greatly.”
“Ask not what your country can do for you… ask what you can do for your country.”
“In giving rights to others which belong to them, we give rights to ourselves and to our country.”

Jacqueline was at his side through everything,
She was every inch a Queen who buried her King.
And a Nation wept for the darkness it would bring.
