Tropical Fruits

Gary Edward Geraci

In season, a plenitude for the harvest blade,

A Mother provides sweet globes of intercession,

And feeds all her children from summer to fall.

Have you seen anything more beautifully arrayed?

Durian caught in tough, tied taut, nets

Is spiky, stinky, and tropical gold in hue,

Fruit for families fond, while native

Primates queue close by and start making bets.

Climbing men lower jackfruit on ropes,

Like bands of armed foot-soldiers with flip-flopped feet,

They have come to slash and slice with curved knives,

Gorge, and give glory to God who affirms all hopes.
