The Night We Murdered Love

Jack Trip

The night we murdered love

I exploded

inside a dark, toothy

wet cave

Three coyotes stood

in the  parking lot of a mental institution

Santa Rosa

was drunk on it's own wine

mourning 1972

     MASSIVE MIGRAINE MONARCHS

     PARTICIPATE IN THE FLOGGING

     OF BABY SEALS

Gothic cathedrals loomed

above the homeless

declaring the death of Nietzsche

Band-aids floated in swimming pools

while Air Jordans hung from telephone wires

Airliners departed Detroit

and landed in Paris

     EX-CONS LISTEN TO KENDRICK             LAMAR

     WHILE PLAYING CHESS

     WITH ALL WHITE PIECES

I watched a dog

return to it's vomit

I thought about saying something

but decided

she deserved it.
