Starbucks

rhmn_7

Soulmateship was real,

until Starbucks killed it,

buried it and flatten the grave of it.

Not too big, not too small,

Sweet and bitter, I want it all!

More whipped cream please, more

because I deserve it all!

Not too cold, not too hot,

Give me all the syrups you’ve got!

salted caramel or mango dragonfruit, both brewed

Milk not steamed? Don’t be rude!

Filtered, topped, rich and full-bodied,

my taste is unique and not copied!

Black plain coffee? That’s soo boring,

I need different colors every morning!

Friendship, companionship

Starbucks killed all, bit by bit.

Made us believe

that we can order perfection

quickly and for a small price

without putting any effort into it.

Soulmateship,

something you don’t „just“ find,

it requires kindness, patience, tending and time.

Something that doesn’t come at you,

but from you..

  • Comment from author about the poem: No it's not Starbucks fault, but somehow it still is?! We believe that we deserve everything and we are entitled for the best of the best and forget to put effort into any kind of relationships. Life should't be like ordering your perfect coffee from Starbucks because nothing comes in perfect. What do you think?

A great analogy and metaphor. true it is that people have grown to feel entitled when nature has no entitlement. It sends warning sines about where we have arrived. and where we are going. The poem read smoothly and was quite identifiable.

Words have flowed from your fingertips onto this page in the most wonderful way. As I read each stanza I nod my head and think "yes, yes, yes..." Such sadness when we lose ourselves to the hyperbole of life, forgetting that coffee is just coffee and when it is consumed we are still the same old person we were. I love this poem!

Maybe that's why I get the same Ole plain Latte. Can't stand all of the other extremities. Great metaphor.
