a waltz

queer-with-a-pen

play in the stream with me,

we’ll weigh down our pockets with

rocks and shiny pebbles, and then

go home together after

and i’ll dance with you

under the stars,

take a spin around the moon,

let you dip me in the blazing

shadows of the sun

i will love you without shame

wherever i shall roam,

as a cowboy, a scallywag, or a bard

because it’s not the taste of the overpriced

movie theater popcorn and shared soda

that i’m trying to savor

and i’ll love you loudly, too

and with all the skill of a dog howling

at the moon, i will confess my love for you

and by that i mean, i’ll be

loud and unashamed

because i was crafted from clay

and seaglass with smoothed-down edges

that match the colors of your eyes,

to love and be loved by you

and that’s all i’ll ever ask of you,

to let me love you

and to love me like i’ll be here tomorrow,

like i’m worth coming home to

Enjoyed the third stanza enormously. Doesn’t take money to swoon someone that might fall in love with you.
