Mists of Melville

sorenbarrett

Adrift in a fog

far from shore/sure

Past memories

now vanishing and reappearing ghosts

breaking from the mist as slumbering spectral icebergs

dangerously submerged under a dark, cold sea

haunt me

like growlers, cast off a forgotten glacial dream

frozen echo's of past falling flakes and drops

driven by hidden collective currents

that would drown me in its black fathomless depths

silently they come

to wreck unwary ships

tearing their hull

hopelessly bilged

flooded

breaking their back

gutting their soul

only to melt again into the haze

They float adrift

unattached

over the obscure

womb of

watery depths

one of my favourite books/writers ever!
    (even accounting for the unsavoury
    romanticising of animal cruelty)
'Starbuck' still one of my favourite characters
    that unfaltering loyalty, becoming
even more of an archaic trait
    sadly
    (a great write! dear Poet)
    'haunt me
like growlers, cast off a forgotten glacial dream
frozen echo's of past falling flakes and drops
    driven by hidden collective currents
that would drown me in its black fathomless depths'

As a (former) sailor, I enjoy these descriptions. Very evocative.
