The Little Mermaid

L. V. Adams

The Little Mermaid

Oh, how I long to be yours

To see your smile,

I would turn to foam

On the dark sea, on the vicious waves

Oh, but you’re far from the shores

Far from me

And a knife meant for you,

Is a knife meant for me

Oh, how I yearn to be in your arms

Keep you from all harm

Every step away is agony

Oh, I know we’re not meant to be

Yet, I dream, an impossible dream

Fight against the endless stream

And the words in my heart

Remain words in my mind

How it could be

How it could be

My mind shows me

A future together

You and me, forever

But it’s only a wish,

It’s only a dream,

I know

Yes, I know

How it should be

Happiness slips beyond my reaches

The sun sets on the horizon

The time has come, the time is near

So, I smile with the thought of death in my heart

Oh darling, I know we must part

Still I long to be yours
