Life's Travail

Keith Jeffries

Life's Travail

We are knocked from pillar to post.

Often lost in wonder, then confused.

Mind over matter comes once in a while.

The wind blows then the sun shines.

We fall in love only to crash to the ground.

Careers and jobs go around as an unstoppable carousel.

Family and friends fill the gaps.

Journeys break a monotonous ride.

We eat and drink to excess and smile.

Catastrophe climbs the mountain to serenity,

as good deeds can lead to perfidy.

as the rain soaks us through,

we languish on life's sofa until

 we quietly die.

Having said goodbye.
