You blame me for being done with you
But you already decided you were done with me
I can't watch you fall apart
Inside your pit of self pity
Misery lurks in the darkness
Despair is in the air
There are dozens of hands reaching
To pull you out.
All you have to do is reach back
But that means change
Change brings discomfort
And you've found comfort in your pit
You think if the hands really wanted to help
They should be down their with you.
No one wants to live down there
And you mistake that for "they don't care"
I lived in that pit with you
I felt enough misery for two
And to obey your demands
I didn't reach for the hands
But I couldn't take all the tears
All the disappointment, pain, and the fears
All those wasted years
When the hands became scarce
I knew i had to take the chance
Before it got worse.
So much time went by
Before seeing another
I thought it too late
But there it was
I couldn't let YOU be my fate
No longer could I wait
I reached out
There was more darkness on the way up
But the light shined upon my face
I hoped you'd grab on
And we would make it to the top together
But that was not the case
I looked back to find you at the bottom
I know everyone has their own pace
But you have to move to have one
But I couldn't let my son
Be born in the same pit I was
So I continue to climb
I might not ever make it to the very top
But my son will never know the same darkness I've known
I climb so that maybe he can make it to the top
And if not him, maybe his future offspring
But you couldn't do the same for me
You wanted someone to share the pit
Where you continue to sit.
