Dear President, I thank you so,
For setting aside any pride and ego.
To lend an ear to the opposition,
And seek solutions through cooperation.
We've seen leaders fight for power in the past,
Citizens suffer, property destroyed, lives lost,
Economy shut down, leaving us all in despair,
But you’ve chosen a different path, since you care.
Please don't give up the course of unity,
For the sake of the nation's prosperity,
Let us work together with sincerity,
Towards a brighter future of dignity.
Thank you, Mr. President, for taking this lead,
And showing us that we can indeed,
Rise above our differences and succeed,
In building a nation that we can all need

- Comment from author about the poem: Ongoing mass protests, destruction of property, brutal clash between police and protesters, loss of lives, political hardline stance threaten to tear the nation apart. It is a political clash between the government and the opposition. In an unexpected turn, the president gives a national address signaling his willingness to engage the opposition leaders in a constructive dialogue within the constitutional frameworks. At the very moment, opposition leaders call off the protests to allow room for dialogue. But something is amiss! Those surrounding the president and some senior government officials are evidently uncomfortable with this new ceasefire deal, they feel threatened and are publicly opposing the move and coercing the president not to engage the opposition at all. Things seem crumbling again with the opposition threatening to go back to the streets should the president downplay them. Someone needs to encourage the president to embrace the dialogue. Yes, someone needs to assure him that he has taken the right path. Someone must remind him that he is the symbol of national unity. I choose to pass this poetical message to him through his public email address. Will he read this email and will it change a thing?
