The poisonous time

Hopeless lover

In eternal darkness let the night reside,
For when daylight dawns, time’s cruelty abides.
A poison elusive, its effects unknown blends love and hate, both good and bad.

Fate, the author of my defined plight, guides me through a restless path, veiled in fright.
Let the sun’s rays be halted, never to rise, to stall time’s relentless march, its ceaseless guise.

Both joy and sorrow reside, intertwined, forever side by side.
Thus, I should embrace the poison bittersweet and pur.

My comments on the poem "The poisonous time” by Hopeless lover

This seven-line poem is full of doom, of gloom, of despair. From despondency, the poet wishes that night never ends. Dawn and light bring hope, but this poet wished darkness to remain. This can only come from someone who is in despair. He says that, with daylight, life’s cruelty against him starts anew. His life is like a poison with unknown effects. It encompasses both love and hate, what is good and what is bad.

It is fate that has decided what the poet should go through : his life is one of plight. His journeying is without rest and it is beset with fear. What is the use for the sun to rise if it brings no good for this man ? Let the sun never rise again. Thus, the march of time will be stopped, for with the time’s march the man’s agony is perpetuated.

In this life, both joy and sorrow exist side by side. They are joined forever. Thus, one does not exist without the other. Perhaps one brings up the other. In despair, with no remedy in sight, the poet wishes to drink some poison that would relieve him of this torture, this misery. What a sad poem…
