Prison

Stuck in a cage and there is no way to get out of it,

And the voices in my head keep telling me that I need to just quit.

But there is something inside of me that won't allow me to lay it rest,

Because I know I need to keep fighting in order to be my best.

But how do you keep moving forward when there is something holding you back,

And all it does is remind you of everything that you seem to lack.

But you want to keep going because you know that you deserve better for yourself,

But you have a tendency to leave your dreams sitting there on your shelf.

Because more than anything, you are afraid that you are going to fail,

But you know that you need to push yourself to do it because you can't reach the shore if you never even set sail.

And as crazy as it sounds, you are also nervous because what happens if you actually succeeded,

And you are finally able to be the person that you thought you always needed.

But it scares you because what if you get there and it is not what you expected,

And everything comes true, all of the fears and doubts that you have always suspected.

What hurts the most is that the prison you live in you will never be able to leave,

And the life that you have envisioned for yourself is something that you will have to grieve.

Because the prison that you are trying to escape is the one that is between your own two ears,

And it knows exactly how to bring you down, because it knows all of your doubts, insecurities and fears.

But all you can do is take it one day at a time,

And try your best to try and quiet your mind.

Eventually one day you will get there, no matter what it takes,

And you are determined to hit your end goal, because no matter what, you are not going to slam on the breaks.
