That Voice

Introverted Sage

The way my mind rhymes
You'd think I was a rapper.
But in another time
I was known as the clap-backer.

Quick with my wit
And the venom I spit.
Not worried who I hurt
Just hear my words first!

And then there came a day
When my voice was taken away.
Not a rhyme in my mind
"Shut the fuck up and get in line!"

"Stay in your place,
You're a disgrace!"
"No one wants to hear you!"
Speaking up now made me fearful.

It was probably much worse
but that's what started first.
A damper to my words.
Vocalizing now sounding absurd.

Life lessons now I know
Words can make wounds glow or grow.
So I use my rhymes to heal
Pacing words to make them feel.

Using my wit to make them think
A voice that is distinct.
New ways to spend my time
As verses flood my mind.

Make that voice work for you
It may sound corny but true

    good poem sage
I hope to see more rage

so true if we are but humble
    enough, to learn
    our mistakes, can anchor
    our evolution
    we need only
    accept accountability and strive
    to do better
next time we're given the opportunity
    a great write, dear Poet
    thank you
