Unkind

B. Frost

The weather is gloomy this early afternoon
A light sprinkle to begin the infancy of June

The thunder grumbles to establish the mood
A battle with nature a reoccurring feud

The wind rushes in with black in the distance
The leaves off their limbs with little resistance

Skimming across the ground out of sight in a flash
The light show makes an appearance with a ferocious crash

The rain picks up an increase in the drops
Steady is the sound hitting rooftops

Overhead in an instant is a front moving through
The scenery in the open is a chaotic view

The roar in the sky has announced its arrival
The fowl have taken shelter to ensure their survival

The temperature is rising to a noticeable warm
A large thunderhead now beings to form

The lightning within it initiates the dance
A mesmerizing experience leaves the eyes in a trance

The water in the grass is starting to stand
Close to the bay the thirst of the sand

Off in the horizon a contrast of gray
The forecast for tomorrow is heading this way

The umbrellas at the tables are leaning at their bend
Weathered by the storms and built to defend

The rain has lessened now to a drizzle
The fight in the events has begun to fizzle

Here and gone a crisp cool follows behind
A reminder of how the elements can often be unkind
