Secret Love

SHELLY

Like a deep, dark pain

I struggle within me

Looking at you with her

Wishing it was me

I put on a plastic smile

So no one would notice

That my heart is shattered

It's so hard to do this

The introduction I made

Wasn't for you to fall in love

I didn't have a clue

Not one sign from above

Now I sit with both of you

The perfect matchmaker

My best friend and the guy

I wanted to be my lover

My heart implodes

Every time he would say

I'm like one of the guys

I just look away

If for just one second

I can get him to see

How deeply I love him

And what he means to me

Instead, I have to be

Maid of honor with a grin

As he pledges his love to another

Again, wishing it me

A sad read, one that first speaks to the person written about and then to us readers about your pain. It is clear, flowing and a truth that so many have experienced and will continue to, sadly.
