Gabe,
I dragged you out shopping, you
didn’t want to go...When I first asked you nicely, you balked and said “NO!”
But I wanted so badly to get this
chore done...so I said, “If you come with me, I’ll make it fun!”
“I’ll buy you a present, a real sweet
surprise”...In a flash all your obstinance just vaporized!
You exclaimed, “Let’s go shopping!”,
with glee in your eyes...You agreed to go with me, give in, compromise.
You were a real trouper as I filled my
cart...You were patient and helpful, it so warmed my heart!
My shopping was done, it was time to
check out...but before that we needed your present, no doubt!
In the very first toy aisle you spotted
that drone...“It’s for age 8 and up, though,” I said with a groan!
But you begged and you pleaded for
that stupid drone...and you told me it’s just what you’ve wanted to own!
“But you’re only four,” I replied with a
laugh...You indignantly argued you’re four and a HALF!
Against my good judgment it went in
the cart...All along, though, I knew that it wasn’t too smart!
Grandpa assembled and charged up
this drone...it was then time to leave, so with you it went home.
Daddy sent me a picture, I took a
quick peek...You were crying and had a big gash on your cheek!
Daddy said within seconds this drone
injured you...And I felt very guilty, and horrible too!
The drone was in pieces and thrown
in the trash...What a waste of your bandaids and tears, and my cash!
Getting that drone for you wasn’t too
wise...But thank God you at least still have both of your eyes!!
I’m truly so sorry I bought you that
drone...That it was a mistake, surely I should have known!
I want your face scar-free, your eyes
left intact...So I’d like to propose that we now make this pact:
Before you turn eight, please don’t
ask for a drone...And I won’t make you shop with me, I’ll go alone!
Love, Grandma
