Love from a distance

stephwrites

Maybe it’s better to love you from a distance

Because how am I supposed to witness

You falling in love with someone new

Doing all of the things we used to do

Is it foolish to think we could ever be friends

Are we just in the same place again

Knowing that things will inevitably come to an end

Lying to ourselves and to each other

Pretending like we could ever love another

Knowing that we love each other so deeply

Knowing that saying goodbye makes us weepy

Knowing that I was your first real love and you were mine

And perhaps we’ll love each other until the end of time

But maybe we should love each other from a distance

Because I know it’ll hurt to witness

You moving on with someone new

When it could’ve should’ve would’ve been me and you.
