A Moonlight Sonata
Misty Moonlight -
That Fourth of July, there were rockets in the sky
stars, sparkling in her eyes, he couldn’t help but see.
The sweet music they heard, but never said a word
made something in them stir. Their lonely hearts were free.
Jerry asked for her name, Angie replied the same
thinking,” What’s in a name, when you’re in love, again?”
Then came shadows on the moon, a storm coming soon
the band played a tune for lovers caught in the rain
With raindrops falling down and moonlight all around
they were dancing to the sounds, but could not resist.
Soaking wet, they embraced, one hand upon her face
one around her waist, they held each other tight…and kissed.
Interludes -
Love is the dream, inspired by moonbeams
though it never will be what it seems.
To keep their dream they’ll be faithful and true
and their love will always seem to be new.
Others may swear it’s just an affair
but they know that love’s in the air.
“Angie, you were a vision that night.
You were the one holding me tight.
To you, I’ll be true as long as I live.
All of my strength, to you, I will give.
What others may say won’t mean anything at all.
Excuse me a moment, I have to take this call.”
“Jerry, my love, is it the hospital again?
Really, are you their only surgeon?
You know, I’ve got a show and I’ll be home late.
Oh, and I’m thinking of taking two weeks upstate.”
He was a surgeon and she a musician
each dedicated and filled with ambition.
The Masquerade is Over -
Angie and Jerry were meant to be.
They had pledged their love for eternity.
They lived for their work and their romance.
He often asked Angie to sing as they danced.
One day he mentioned moving in
how it would be convenient for him.
“Or renting a house!” he uttered loudly.
“A place to practice,” he said proudly.
They were coming to a crossroad.
Their careers would never run side by side
and their repressed tensions would explode.
They no longer could see eye to eye.
Heaven and Heartache -
Living together can be the final frontier
The intimacy can scrape off all the veneer
Angie was offered what could be her big break
summer in Memphis as a house band, was at stake.
Jerry had reached associate chief surgeon
but if Angie left, could he bear the burden?
Jerry was crushed, on the kitchen table was a note
He knew her handwriting. Fear tightened his throat
“Dearest Jerry,
I love you, but I can’t sugarcoat
what I’m about to write. I have left for Memphis
to follow my dream. Please don’t condemn us.
I love you
If you can find a way to get free.
Join us. I will be waiting. I love you
Angie”
Jerry was heart-broken. He would miss her a lot
Yet, he wanted her to be happy and not…
Well, he shouldn’t kid himself, she was depressed
but he would neither consider or suggest
giving up his career to follow her?
Not yet, but maybe someday, in the future?
