Für Friedrich

CoffeeRoller

O mighty ship of absurdity,

Sink into the mighty ocean please

And carry useless lives if you wish,

They're just ugly as you and me

'Zarathustra's stay, ready for criticizing and discipline

They number millions, as I can see

It's their soft mouths and slender fingers

That melodious syllables get chained in

Meanwhile we're exposed in the sun,

Hysterically and cynically wandering

We drown ourselves in electric wires,

Seeking for pretty sweet LSD

So rusty are our crystalline lens,

Short sighted are we

Crystalline lens fail to reflect our faces,

We fail to be free

Hey you, watch our footsteps,

What are they escaping and avoiding?

Why they're heading

Straight the story's ending?

Hard rain from early spring

Drench our bones and drench our veins

So summertime cannot dry off

Our rheumatism and migraines

Strokes in the temple, are

Questioning us patiently

We've been bonded on such an exhausting excursion,

Can we get off and plant our corpses

In the hyacinth garden?

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was translated on my own from its Chinese version that I wrote first. (Actually 'Für Friedrich' is the Germanic version of the former Chinese name "致弗里德里希") It's quite a cynical work and a little bit immature but it kind of reflects my mental states during the pandemic, under the pressure of entrance examinations and a body issue. Also, I love the rhymes I made. So finally I decide to check the translation I did earlier, modify the wording & grammar mistakes and publish it. I think it's already OK for a non-native speaker.
