Listening Lord

orchidee

Tune: Corpus Christi

('Jesus, in thy dear Sacrament')

Genesis 16 v.6-14

********

Lord, hear us now, we ask today

And even every day

Thorough night watch is keep

Guard us your sheep

Hear night and day, we pray

Help us to listen unto you

With us your grace endue

Speak your message clear

Cause us to hear

Obey with godly fear

For you did unto Hagar hark

Her situation stark

Sarah cast her out

Without a doubt

Her state abandoned, dark

Yet you Lord, found her, desert land

Where she escaped the hand

Of her stern mistress

Who caused distress

To her, no more did bless

You promises to Hagar gave

You did vist and save

She woudl bear a son

Ishmael the one

'God shall hear', it be done

And well nearby, she did then name

Beer-la-hai-roi, the same

"The well of Him, he

The God, He be

Who does live and see me"

Doh! My original poem was due to have 'persevere' in the title. I didn't persevere in re-typing the 8 verses of it! It's plan B today.

your authors note suggests some kind of divine intervention if you ask me ..

Well, the tune name was going to be 'Engelberg'. Maybe I would have crooned like Engelbert Humperdinck. Who could bear that from me?! lol.

Nicely written. I'm just going through the old testament at the moment. I never realised how much murder and adultery was in it!

Thanks SC. Phew, yes, some ghastly things in it. A nice chapter somewhere is where 70 are beheaded, and their heads put in two baskets. I'm gonna be sick! lol.

Even some Psalms get ghastly - end of Psalm 137, wishes that Israel's enemy Babylon's little children be 'dashed against stones', i.e. child murder. But a commentary says that is what Babylon did to Israel's children, so tit-for-tat.
