Progress?

sorenbarrett

It took a billion years to reach a technological revolution

to kill, to maim, destroy, enslave, judge ourselves on top of evolution

We fly, go to space, change the face of our earthly home

conquer nations build an Egypt, Babylon or Rome

We overcome illness, split the atom and with nuclear power light the night,

while among ourselves we still steal, betray, lie, and fight,

breaking hearts, abuse young and old, and our fetus' abort

spend millions on vanity, to the disadvantaged give no support

Greed, envy, hate, and discrimination

form the basis of our so called civilization

We preach love, charity, forgiveness, equality

while we watch rape and murder on the screen of our technology

The themes of our movies are violence and vengeance

what happened to mercy, unity, and transcendence?

Will it take another billion years of evolution

for our specices to have a true social revolution?

You have given us a most accurate tableau of technology superseding our humanity, in perfect verse. Every line rings so true, you would think that the warning bell would wake us up, but when you wear earplugs you never hear it. Hats off my friend, for such an incredible write.
