by the side of the road

dave donovan

Notice of absence from dave donovan
i can sometimes be very lazy, dont worry, i will eventually get back to you. i am very busy, almost all the time...

A life of promise and future, torn.

Freedom to choose,  lost

All in an instant.

By the side of the road.

Going too fast,

Not looking beyond a phone.

All in an instant.

By the side of the road.

Twisted and torn,

Eyes wide open.

Life gone away.

By the side of the road.

When we make mistakes,

In our modern world,

Life becomes cheap.

By the side of the road .

Metal boxes speeding,

Flesh weeping.

Blood seeping.

By the side of the road

  • Comment from author about the poem: As I drove through a small village in West Yorkshire I had to slow to allow a woman to cross. To my left, in a rag doll pose against a bus stop was a young woman. Her eyes haunt my every moment. I have no idea how it happened, nor did I feel it was safe to stop, as several people were already tending to her, but I know she was dead. It was obvious. Such a shame. A life wasted, and for what? A screen no bigger than your palm, a job not worthy of the life taken? Who knows. All I can sat is, I feel for you, sweet lass by the side if the road. God bless you wherever you are now. And good night.
