The Universe

carpe4diem

you tell me that the things i believe in aren't real. you tell me i'm crazy for believing in it. you say science is the reason for existence, and the universe isn't the creator. the universe isn't real. you ask me why i believe otherwise.

and i answer, "because what is the point?"

people thrive on hope, they're desperate for it. i want to believe that vampires and mermaids are real because then we are just existing in a boring, patriarchal, economy where we have no purpose but to educate, work and repopulate.

i want my life to be exciting, i want to write stories and have my head in the clouds because that's what existence is to me. if the universe isn't real, then the bane of my entire life isn't either, because then political power is the only thing that exists and that world is so dark and pathetic.

if the universe isn't real, then you're telling me im whipsering desperate prayers to nothing? you're telling me there's nothing out there to help me when i'm so low? that i truly am alone for my life? that there's nothing, nobody, that is watching me, protecting me, listening to me? i'm just a being with no purpose?

why would i want to sit here and believe that nothing is real. why would i want my life to revolve around science, politics, education, work and reproduction? i don't want that. i want to feel happy, spiritual and free.

  • Comment from author about the poem: i once got in a heavy argument with a science believer. all he talks about is physics, politics, power. and if you're interested in that then that's okay. but he made me feel weak, he made me feel like i was strange because of what i believe in. i wrote this poem that same night because i was frustrated and my life suddenly felt awfully meaningless.

But wisdom is justified of all her children.

      It was a compliment...

I am not religious, but respecting and yes embracing the faith of others is a much-forgotten trait. It is easy to get frustrated by and end up dismissing the inner lives of others. None of us knows for sure, but we have to make sense of it for ourselves. Peace to you brother!

Peace to you too, I 100% agree 🙂

Feels to me as if you have erected a straw man argument there.
Apologies in advance for my pedantry.
Let’s try to define terms so that I might better understand you.
Universe – The suns planets galaxies which are everywhere and apparently originated with the big bang.
Science (in this instance astronomy) studies this and all other physical phenomena etc.
If you don’t like the “patriarchal, economy where we have no purpose but to educate, work and repopulate”, then find purpose in trying to change it for the better.
It maybe we have no purpose at all – ‘we’re here because we’re here’
So just avoid vampires and mermaids and get out and enjoy (or improve) your life if you can.
