Fragility

Vera Podell

As a kid you loved that one weird game
You used to walk around
And push things
To see them fall
And see if they would break
Your body is an empty vessel
Your mind'll be smashed
Into smithereens
What are you trying to escape
When you try to make a split?
The cup you pushed
Is crushing on the floor
Its never coming back
But in front of your eyes
You see it flying upwards
You need to be reborn
Impossibility's disarming
It's frightening for you
To always stay this way
And then you feel your finger bleed
From holding cup's shrapnel
Then you feel pressure on your throat
And something else that brings you pain
Your throat and eyes are sore
Aren't you just like you used to be?
Fascinated
By the fragility
Of this whole world?
