Start Steppin’

 

When you travel life’s byways the scenery can be tough
When you top over a hill or round a curve
You can see things you never would’ve expected
And damn sure don’t believe you deserved

I’ve been knocked sideways by living 
Hit hard straight out of the blue
Usually when I tried to fix things without thinking
I ended up looking like a fool

You always need to take your time
Consider what path will be best
Acting based on anger and pride 
Won’t put your problems to rest

There’s always a way to go forward 
You’ve got to get out of the weeds
Where do you want to be in the future 
What steps will meet your needs

You started out dreaming of something 
At times life chose a different route
Keep reaching for that destination 
The journey’s what it’s all about

Don’t give up on the dreams you dreamed 
Never forget what you have learned
Education whether formal or from living
Will always be something you earned

When you think you’ve got the world by the tail
For success you’ve been prepping’
And from nowhere you get hit in the mouth
Shake it off and then start steppin’
