Curse of Nostalgia

Alex Arnot

I don't want it anymore

I can feel life's judging eyes glare at me.

Upon me, the sun no longer smiles.

Flirtatious media calls "stay awhile."

Only a glimpse of others' lives,

an emptiness does satisfy.

New voices have tainted my escape.

My apathy threatened by their pain,

I don't want it anymore.

Oh sweet teat of nostalgic things!

Cradled, I suckle, and you sweetly sing.

Bury me gently in familiar bliss.

Shelter me now and save me from this

Pain

swallowed down by sweet nostalgia,

pain

inflicted by the real world's careless fingers.

Doped up by memories of the past

when hope did promise the joy would last,

eyes, perhaps, not tainted by rose

but blind to misfortune not my own

tell me a story I know so well

free of the pandering they try to sell.

Upon me the screen no longer smiles.

Only memories let me stay awhile,,

and I don't want it anymore.
