Us men and our egos

Kudakwashe Muchechemera

Us men and our egos
we could pass the ball but we prefer free throws
acting like we own the clock
when we on the clock.
We hold ransom the soul of the nation
turning a blind eye to moral degradation
resulting from our lack of discipline
and blatant refusal to repent of our sins
we cry foul only when on the receiving end
but when corruption benefits us we don't seek its end.
Us men and our egos...

Us men and our egos
rather suffer in silence than admit that
we need help
acting like we got it together to avoid being vulnerable
resorting to lying ironically to seem honourable.
Us men and our egos,
hurting the people we love and all because
we failing to observe our ethos
masking insecurities with our masculinity
when that doesn't work we impose impunity
at the expense of the happiness of those we love
Us men and our egos...

Us men and our egos
we fluent in conversation of the devil's reality
religious in our debating his effect on humanity
whilst treating God as though He's our equal
speaking death where He spoke life by condemning people
and we get offended when we are labeled as evil
Us men and our egos,
instead of instituting godly submission through love and devotion6
we coerce compliance and expect commitment
superficial authority is not an achievement;
a truth that we seem to have forgotten.
Us men and our egos...
