Wanton Heart

Ian Carpenter

Perhaps poetry is enough
As with time on these aged heels
I can't surrender in thought anything
But just the rays of light
Upon an usual apartment wall
Perhaps not too usual, rather
A lingering like a drifting alley voice
Or a summer song that swings still
And murmurs waiting in my wanton heart.
