autumn's dangling door

Crystal Hope

orange scarf fitted around her oval neck

dusted with dirt flakes of fallen leaves.

pumpkins solid like tree trunks rooting

brushing against your billowy sleeves.

paperback pages yellowed from age

with the scents of boxed attics.

rain clouds thunder on windowpane

with lightning strikes of static.

auburn strands tucked behind her ear

as her fingers traced the letters of ink.

coffee cup warm with spiced steam

kissing her cold cheeks rose pink.

brown socks roasting by a fireplace

bolted with red checkered brick.

her eyes gleamed with golden green

as autumn dangles from a stick.
