I was there that morning
When Satan wielded might
As clouds of fury blotted day
And blocked the sun from sight
The many that had perished
Had no real time to flee
As two fell from the city view
And changed our history
~~~<>~~~
I never really understood
Why I came out alive
The hows, whys, the why not them
Just why did I survive?
So many, many people
Of so much value, more than I
Were held in Satan’s lasting grip
And from this world did fly
~~~<>~~~
Now I must proclaim, upon this day
Our lives to live should all be cherished
Remember well the hows and whys
And all those loved, that perished
With pounding hearts and deep-laid breaths
Let’s all provide them reverence
Permitting our undying unity
Allowing not our severance

- Comment from author about the poem: That morning I escaped the tragedy that we try to remember and honor. For many years I had recurring nightmares and often questioned why I survived. My first exposure to survivor\\\'s guilt. Thankfully dreams stopped, but memories did not. No life is more important than another, I learned, but each life has value. Mine was and is to my family and remembering to honor those people and their families that suffered personal tragedy on that day.

Tragic, terrifying. Innocent people die in war.
9/11. Forgotten Tuesday in the world's memory...
Such a fitting and beautiful tribute to those who were taken most cruely that day. There is no rhyme or reason in a tragedy such as this, as to who does, or does not survive. So many circumstances put people in a certain place at a certain time. The old adage "There but for the grace of God go I" comes to mind. We are fortunate indeed, to have you wonderful verse here dear friend.
Absolutely amazing! What a great tribute to a day we all remember! A tragedy! You made it out alive because you're meant to be here! And, our job now is to honor those who didn't make it!
Such a poetic sense here your first stanza is truly beautiful, and so the rest. I couldn't pretend to imagine what you went through on ground zero up close and personal, I can only say I am so glad you are here to tell your vision. Kudos dear Pop64. Absolutely not easy to write and as a reader not so easy to read. You made it home! 💖
This is such a heart wrenching read
Hopefully you find a little consolation in the justice you have done such a tragic event
The content speaks for itself
The rhyming and rhythm are phenomenal
A message well received
Can't really find the words so I'll leave it at thank you
