Wandersworth

AuburnScribbler

Credit where credit’s due,

your five-day jaunt was good,

to leave a human zoo,

to walk the neighbourhood,

did you flee out of fear,

or did you do it out of ego?

Either or, there was no cheer,

for someone so unknown,

squared circle was a towpath,

your breaths, were very deep,

off-duty cop, sure did the maths,

a memory you shall keep,

where in Belmarsh, I envisage,

you’ll reminisce with pride,

the days you robbed the privilege,

as you plainly, stay inside,

Heathfield Road, you sound so nice,

but you’re clearly out of shape,

you’re no centre, curing vice,

so easy to escape,

hence, Wandersworth you are,

not able to contain,

your kitchen door is ajar,

there he goes again!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Thought I would write about this goliath story, that has happened recently in the UK. Daniel Abed Khalife, a former soldier and a terror suspect, who was held in remand in HMP Wandsworth, escaped via the kitchen door, where he used bedsheets to tie himself underneath a delivery truck, for five days worth of freedom. He was captured by an off duty police officer on a towpath. He is now in custody again, but this time in a more secure prison, HMP Belmarsh. HMP Wandsworth has had security problems before, thus, it must be really embarrassing for a prison to be so "wanderable", hence the name of the poem. With the poem, is a picture of the escapee courtesy of Kim Mogg and NationalWorld, and the banner picture is what HMP Wandsworth should strive to be, an actual prison. I hope that you enjoy the poem, and as always, please stay safe everyone.

I saw this and I too am from south London it was surely worrying how he could have done it? I also heard the police service isnt to be trusted? What's going on in my beloved country? At least he was found in Chiswick! Must have wanted some KFC lol 🤣

Thanks for the read Teddy.15, and bless you for your worries, of which I too share.

After such lurid realities about certain police officers, abusing their power to attack women recently, the trust ,in a general sense, that has been lost from the public, needs to be re-earned quickly, in order for some actual decent security to return.

Regards, to the prospective KFC, I suppose you could call it a "getaway takeaway!" Hahaha!

I hope that all is well.

      "squared circle was a towpath,

I have fallen in love with your style of expressing thought so perfectly. Hats off to you, honorable poet.

Thanks for the read Aktarul, and for your continued kindness, it is very much appreciated.

I hope that all is well.

It is a delicate balance to address a person ‘unknown’ with multiplicity -job well done-everyone craves for freedom and not all in a gentle way-

        • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Parisab, and your comment as always, is impeccably worded with wisdom. I especially agree with the last part of your comment, as sad as it may be.

I hope that all is well.

Where there's a will, there's a way, and it's unfortunate when the bad guys find it. I commiserate with you on this one. Here in the US a two week manhunt was just concluded when authorities tracked down a convicted murder who had escaped from a county prison in Philadelphia. This guy was extremely dangerous and armed, and communities were on high alert with him the loose. Police ended up using thermal heat technology from an aircraft to finally locate him, and a U.S. Border Patrol tactical unit dog fwas able to pin him down. This guy was extremely dangerous and armed, and communities were on high alert while he was on the loose with him the loose. Guess this would be the time to beef up security, after the horse has left the barn. Good write!

Thanks for the read Bella, and I\'m relieved that the aforementioned manhunt where you are, was concluded relatively quickly, though like you, I have an urgent need for security to improve.

It seems that in modern times, the overcomplicated and frustrating way of life, that mankind makes, means that nobody, is really doing/or allowed to do their job!

Thanks again for your kind words, and I hope that all is well.
