Unified

B. Frost

Looking out for each other seems to have lost its place
The emotions have been replaced by blank stares on the face

The joy and fulfillment that once filled the eyes

Has been overtaken by absence to no surprise

The overwhelming emptiness that this life can provide

Can turn one inward with a soul left to hide

The world around us can often seem so bleak

A misinterpreted meaning of turning the other cheek

Not being able to count on others like we used to do

You know having that certain someone that you can lean on too

Most everyone seems to be in a world of their own

Everyone needs someone we can’t go at it alone

Somewhere along the way we have gotten off track

Empathy is just one thing that we need to get back

Between standards and morals there is a definite division

A generational difference may have sparked this collision

It was once an obligation to lend a helping hand

We need an intervention to get our heads out of the sand

It’s difficult to pinpoint when the importance of another was lost

We need to realize the damage and reexamine the cost

One thing that is absent in today’s world that can’t be denied

Is that we need to find the value in each other again and stay unified
