It's Saturday morning as
I grab a box of Corn Flakes
while I watch cartoons
on the black and white TV screen
wearing my Superman pj's
with matching slippers as my
parents sleep in late from working
all week and that is why I help myself
to a quick breakfast and be entertained
by Mighty Mouse and his antics before
my wide eyes and stuffing myself with
dry cereal which ends up on the
avocado-colored carpet as proof of
my short-term freedom without parents
breathing down my neck and making sure
the floor is clear of any proof of my
independence so when my mother gets
up and offers me breakfast, my mind
is free from guilt until she observes a
lonely corn flake on the carpet before
the TV as I pray for Mighty Mouse to help.

This takes me back to the late 60s, getting up early on Saturdays and Sundays, beating everyone to the TV. The imagery is superb in its descriptive clarity and the humor is the topping on this wonderful read.
Pop64 (Michael), glad you enjoyed reading my poem. Thank you.
My dear new friend, this is priceless. Being a Boomer myself, this poem reads like my own childhood Saturday mornings with Looney Tunes; Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck and all the Mel Blanc characters. You recall it all so vividly and beautifully, down to the cornflake left on the floor. We are indeed fortunate to have experienced that time, and I thank you this trip down memory lane in wonderful verse.
Thought that woz you last Saturday.............. Does Kellogg's pay up promptly?...Thoroughly enjoyable nostalgic read. Thanks.
Doggerel Dave, actually, I watch Batman and Superman on Saturday mornings.
Well, keep me informed...
Bella, those were the fun days when growing up. We lived for those Saturday morning cartoons and munching on cereal. Thank you for your encouraging comment.
