I Died for Love

A.D. Small

I Died for Love

There was a place
I knew so well
There was a man
Who began to dwell

He sat a girl
Upon his knee
And told her things
He never told me

I ran straight home
Late that night
My dad came home
All shooken up from a terrible fight

He ran to my room
The door he broke
And saw me hanging
From a rope

He got his knife
And cut me down
And in my pocket
The note he found

As he read it
His eyes filled with tears
Thinking of all
Them wasted years

Dig my grave
Dig it deep
Marble stone
Head to feet

And on the top
Place a dove
To show the world
I died for love
