The Diamond Thought

RICHIE KHARIS

At dawn, in a narrow dark lane
Crickets stitched rhythm into my trance

And I remembered
“I am a diamond among a sea of glass”

Once seated on fortune
Yet undone by my own hunger

Will I taste the cherry again?
Not at dusk, but at sunrise

These questions knocked endlessly
While yellow light rested on my cheek

Still,
I will break the circle
And make it count again
