The race is on

Shikha Krishnmurthy

I see around me

A life I aspire to lead,

Served on a platter to others by destiny.

The teasing game is on,

Played by the universe,

To make me crave it more and more,

Yet it keeps me puzzled about the entry door.

How to reach it, how to open and enter,

I don't know.

It's no coincidence that I notice,

People being loved the way I long to be loved,

People reaching heights I yearn to touch.

Why am I tested like this?

Why am I fueled like this?

But left on my own to find my way, with righteousness.

No easy path for me, I know,

And I believe something is in the making,

But why don't I have sharper blades to cut through?

Why must I go through this furnace to emerge anew?

Am I being molten like gold?

Will I come out shinier and brighter?

Who knows?

Because it's a game of patience, then,

Which, again, I am being mistaken to possess.

The only thread I cling to in this darkness,

Is my belief that I am special,

Special to the Almighty, special to the universe.

I believe in myself.

So, I know the madness I'm enduring,

Will pave the way to the glory I desire and am destined for.

But, oh, God, you are testing me a lot,

I'm not asking for a bed of roses,

Though it wouldn't hurt if you did,

But at least make it bearable.

I know a diamond in the rough is still a diamond,

But it still must be found to showcase its beauty.

Don't leave me in the mines.

I'm here to shine.

I do feel I've been chosen,

As the pressure is very high, I guess I'm being processed.

I just want to be polished and set now,

In the ring on your finger, to radiate my glow.

Long breaths and constant prayers,

Sailing resolutely toward my harbor in this stormy weather.

I know you're there,

But the clock is ticking,

The race is on,

And I must arrive on time.
