My First Friend

B. Frost

We were five years old when we first met
With all the cards of life to be dealt yet

Friends we became and soon we both knew That through thick and thin our friendship would hold true

Countless days and nights through our youth spent together
Looking back now there were no times of better

Good times and bad no matter the cost
I can still hear you say… It’ll be all right Frost

From boys to men through life we became
But my feelings for you would always be the same

You brought me to Florida where I still live today
With all the thanks in the world I could never repay

Though time and miles would come between us I’d find
Not a day went by that you were not on my mind

As I come home today to put you to rest
I can honestly say knowing you was truly the best

Our time together now may be over you see But more time to come is destined to be

You can hear me now for this I know
So until we meet again I love you bro

    Excellent tribute.

Thank you so much. I revisit this one on occasion. I was asked to speak at his private service. I was the only friend invited. This is the first poem that I ever wrote. I asked to borrow a pen and wrote it while sobbing on the back of my travel itinerary on a plane. It tore my heart out but we make it. Thank you again. I always prayed that I did my buddy justice.
