Poem for a Love

Joakim Bergen

Oh, you, virgin flower,

Lovely maiden raven-hair’d

With skin pearl-pale;

I seek your courtship,

Your snow-soft hand

And lips, sweetly, cherry red.

Twas not long ago

That your eyes did shine

Upon me, a weakly Moon,

And set my heart ablaze;

Oh, my light was restored

By your wayward embers,

And in your shadow did I

Revel, born anew. You,

The Spring of my Winter;

You the Sun, and I the

Sunflower - oh, how lovely

Your shine, how potent

This spell! Though I know

Not, be this love, still I’d

Like to tell, honestly with

Intention pure; shall you

Share your light with me,

Openly, so we may shine

Together, star-bright?
