What does one say who has nothing to say?
Do you comment on rhyme or subject of verse?
But what if the words really do not make sense
Do you give a “HI” or a “WOW” or isn’t that worse?
What if the author just misspelled most words
Or worse yet, they messed up the grammar?
So, what do you say if that’s truly the case?
Do you sugarcoat or bring down the hammer?
Does it make any sense to disparage the write
To tell them they used the wrong words?
Or, does it help, in fact, if you tell them the truth
By saying the whole thing’s absurd?
If a writer of writes had written so poorly
And from the very first line you stop reading,
What say you then? Do you tell them the truth,
Or find yourself further retreating?

Constructive criticism is best in my opinion,
That's how we grow as poets and artists,
As long as it isn't in a mean way, I personally would welcome it
Great piece , I'm sure we all have had these thoughts at some point
I believe in constructive criticism as well, just thought it served for a good subject. Thank you!
It absolutely does, we have all pondered these thoughts, and if we havent, then we're not willing to grow as poets ourselves and only want good comments,
The truth will set us free.
very true! thank you
So many times I have experienced this. At first I offered constructive criticism but many just got pissed off, so now I just wait for them to ask. Furthermore, I consider myself a novice and wonder how many think the same of my poems but are too polite to say anything. I truly appreciate constructive criticism and have seem much worse, which I just blow off. I know that not all of my poems are good. I loved the rhyme and meter of this piece as well as the creative telling. It was a fun read.
Thank you pop.this will be the topic of my text tomorrow !
Not to be the bare of bad news but here it's not a workshop. In any case members should never feel like their work is being judged. When I read a poem I don't like I move on I don't tell them I dislike it it's the writers work. Personally I am an atheist so religious poems don't interest me at all but I don't sling mud at them. Their is a like button that is pretty useless to be honest and a fave button. But here is the most important thing to remember one reader may see a lot more of a poem than another reader, some of us have been friends here a long time and we know each other personally so a poem may mean something much deeper. Anyway that's what I wanted to say after reading this poem. ❤️
I truly appreciate your honesty and thank you so much for your feedback. Always grateful, Michael
