You Are

janiselizabeth

you are
the sound of a comforting rain
tapping on my window
begging me to come outside
and when you smile,
                 that shameless smile
'are the radiance of the sun
slipping your fingers in between
the blinds and my dress,
                      beckoning
and I cannot help but oblige

you are
the smell of fresh coffee grounds
waking me up in the morning
giving me a reason to start my day
'are the headache I get from withdrawals
when you haven't been around...
and the tylenol to make it go away

you are
the bed I crawl into each night,
                                reassuring me
when I need somewhere to crumble
'are the walls that border me
making me feel safe
and quietly listening,
even when I think you're not

you are
the familiarity of absolutely everything
that surrounds my mundane existence
and yet,

'are sometimes unnoticed, ignored...
taken for granted and forgotten,
in the background, unseen
until those moments,
I look up,
                         and you're gone
and I remember how important

you are

This speaks so highly of that special someone and how we sometimes take them for granted. Your imagery used to convey the subject matter is just perfect.
