Caged Bird

Teddy.15

If it wasn’t for my gentle heart
my feathers would have burned fiercely
a soul that once had light
my freedom just a memory

I must reject these tiresome thoughts
that savage my taunted mind
reduce them to a petal of hope
with harmony entwined

I wish for the day
empathy opens my cage
and lets me fly away
at least she knows I’ll do my best
determined, come what may

with forceful winds that once were tender
blowing me into the blazing sun
my courageous assumption of what could be
is yet to be undone.

lightning strike my sorrowed heart
if I cannot be me,
compassion strike my cage tonight
and let my mind fly free.

A free mind is the best asset a person can have!! It allows us to create, and be ourselves!! Sometimes we are our own cage. Letting go, is our saving grace!! Teddy...this picture reflects your words perfectly!! 💖💖💖💖💖

My comments on the poem "Caged bird” by Teddy.15

The photo shows a person’s head like a cage, with the cage door open and a bird flying off in the distance. Thus, you have broken free from the cage.

A paraphrase of the poem :
Stanza 1 : It is your heart that enabled you to survive in the face of such odds. The quality of your heart is gentle. Yet, it has the strength to allow you to survive the ordeals. Your feathers would have burned your soul, such was the agony imposed on you by the imprisonment. You had been jailed for so long that your freedom had become something of the past.

Stanza 2 : These depressing thoughts bring even more damage to your mind. You need to change them into something positive; it is positivity that will save you. “harmony entwined” : the search for a balance that will save your sanity.

Stanza 3 : You are patiently waiting for the day humanity comes to its senses and frees you. Humanity should get some consolation in the thought that you will do your best after getting your freedom and that you will face any future constraints.

Stanza 4 : The winds were once gentle but now they have gathered strength and are driving you possibly towards destruction. “blazing sun” : after liberation, there is no telling what would happen; there might be dangers. However, you remain steadfast in hoping that things will work out for you. “courageous assumption….. yet to be undone” : your will to fight through future obstacles is strong.

Stanza 5 : You ask lightning to kill you off if you are not allowed a free life. You ask for compassion to be the force that will open the cage --- your jail. The opening of the cage will set both your mind and your body free.

Freedom comes in many forms and we often construct our own cages. No physical cage is as constraining as a mental cage. Loved the write it reads with tenderness and power.

                • Teddy.15

Yes, thank you dear sorenbarret , so much, I wrote this in 2020 when I was very much locked up like most of the world. ❤️

                • Pop64

The picture and the image you created with your words are one and the same and so well tell the truth about setting ourselves (yourself) free, by letting our mind be open and therefore expanding the horizon. Beautiful!

                  • Teddy.15

Tha k you dear Michael. ❤️

We bow to convention, and sadly lose ourselves in the process. To regain that "I", does take courage and determination which you have so brilliantly captured here. Love the pic as well.
