THEY HAD THEIR HEROES

Paul Shayatovich

They had their heroes
One hundred thousand
years ago
Of their exploits
children were raised,
of their courage
and suffering,
children were taught

They are lost to us now

only the oceans
remain
created from
the tears of mothers

  • Comment from author about the poem: I am fascinated by how our prehistoric ancestors lived and thought. They held beliefs that lasted tens of thousands of years but are now lost to us. We will share the same fate. Such is life.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
