They waited for me when I ran late,
The laughs and giggles near the school gate.
I'll be lying if the bond wasn't great,
Pure friendship, nothing to debate.
Yet felt left out, they had their best mates;
Always a solo never a duet.
The best you get, the longer you wait;
I got mine, it wasn't too late.
Like a beautiful painting, on a clean slate;
Something I could watch to my heart's content.
My mere presence a delight for him, he said;
Was broken into pieces, with love he repaired.
Held me close in my worst state,
I'll be damned if he isn't my best mate!

Indeed... Appreciate your comment. Thank you!!
What a touching kinship. That human sense of belonging really should be the sixth sense. Nothing quite it! - Well penned, dear poet
