The Menacing Black Cloud (Home Invasion)

Paul Shayatovich

When the devil is called
he  appears
as a menacing
black cloud
where the dreams of children
wrapped in winter warmth
turn to horror
when clowns crawl
inside their heads
and with
pink oleander lips
I kiss them
sweetly
cradled
in soft pale hands
a nest of ghosts
caressed
to my desirous
heart
and under white
clouds of satin
mother and father
lay still
dreams no longer
to be dreamt
with gleaming
eyes no longer
known to this world
for when the devil
is called
the menacing black
cloud
descends
