Depression

Once_In_A_While_

Smoky shadows flow just outside my periphery,

Dancing in rhythmic movements that feel almost predatory…

The sways and twirls of their shapeless bodies making them appear endless,

And daunting.

Like a black hole sucking me in.

They glide closer.

So close, I feel the need to back up.

I inch away, a voice in the back of my mind whispering to be wary.

But there’s something else.

A déjà vu type feeling.

I’ve seen these ghosts before, felt their presence.

Pulled from my thoughts, I look up.

They're close now.

So close, I can feel their cold mist tickling my cheeks.

Sending chills through my body and creating a deep pit in my stomach.

The shadows dance in a way that closes the distance between us, licking at my skin.

I can feel myself breathing them in with each inhalation.

A dread forms inside me, that I can only describe as flies buzzing around inside my chest.

That’s when it hits me,

I’ve spent time with these creatures before.
