Old Friend Muse

Garth Rakumakoe

My muse is an old friend
He's known me since childhood
through all my different hues
and coming of age

Old muse never abandons me
never vanishes astray
My writer's block is merely
him taking a break
backpacking across Europe
for however many days
as and when he wishes

Then I wake, some random day
to find him hard at work
humming some tune to himself
my desk and ink laid
We both love jazz you see
He is the Potter
and I the clay
Ahead of time, we imagine together
him and I
May our friendship never die
