W.W.

Norman Flagtea

I wonder

what's become of W.W..

You dropped out of college

my junior year.

You were a poet

and had some poems published

in the Plum Creek Review.

You were very pretty

and we would meet

at the Ratskeller

and drink 3.2 beer

sharing a pitcher.

We never did much

because I had a girl friend

but we had a lot of fun

and stayed late.

Did we ever kiss?

But we held hands

and talked poetry

and life in general

plans, aspirations, places.

And one day

you took me by surprise

and undressed silently

in my dorm room

or was it yours?

I froze

and after that

we didn't see

much of each other

any more.

Do you still write poetry?

Did you get married

to a civil servant

at the American embassy in Malaysia?

Did you move to California?

Do you have children?

Do you live with another woman?

Do you remember me at all?

I think I loved you.
