A family waits for the local festival to come around
Lights and fun for all where laughter is a commonly heard sound
There should have been more studies before this next circus came to town
As the faces in our nation would take different shapes all with a similarly desperate frown
Many at first would find relief as given to help them deal
Another crosses the threshold of this frequently calculated pill mill
Early in the numbers was a staggering high-rising trend
One of those being the life lost of my very first friend
A design to assist with one intention in mind Along with new ailments by the plenty we would begin to find
Two or three a day will help you with your affliction
Now without a Webster you can define the darkness of addiction
Taking dignity and respect from our nations patients since the start
Burying loved ones next to strangers now colder forever apart
Millions of lives have been lost while billions are being made
Dying in the streets versus made in the shade
The prices in the market compared to our neighbors abroad
An eighteen hundred percent discrepancy that screams obvious fraud
Another deception built to gouge the price due to demand
We are supposed to be on the same team not pushed into this quicksand
Everyday people need the output for their very survival
Scraping together pennies to meet the cost of this unforgiving rival
Having to assess every month as the cycle starts again
Will I be able to eat this month or will it all go to insulin
Rolling like a freight train creating a hot burning steam
No one is at the wheel as you crush the American dream
You know the old saying when people talk about karma
Can’t wait until she comes back around and puts an end to Big Pharma
Listen closely and you can hear its creaking sound
As the button is pressed once again to start the merry-go-round
